there are times when i amuse myself endlessly. today was one of those times. i sent the following email to the support group advising them of a pending server rebuild...

sup1sol9agt1 and sup2sol9agt1 decided during our last power outage that they no longer wish to be members of the support group. when nobody was looking they corrupted the / partition and made a mad dash toward freedom. despite their best efforts to remain independent and off the grid, they will be brainwashed and re-indoctrinated into the support group beginning later this afternoon.

yes, I could fix them, but they needed to be rebuilt and cleaned up anyway. besides, this is probably quicker...

so, if you have anything on these boxes that you critically need (highly doubtful since they've been offline for over a month now...), tough knickers. the happy fun format fest begins at 3:30 pm on sup1sol9agt1. sup2sol9agt1 will be done once I finish punishing the first one.

and remember, friends don’t let friends run windows.

i was driving from the middle of connecticut back to boston late last night. while driving, i had my xm radio on. a few of the songs i heard got me thinking about music and the stuff i tend to listen to on a regular basis. so i started putting together a list mentally of songs that i *always* turn up the volume as loud as i can stand it. so here i present to you, a list of truly awesome songs that i have a tendancy to crank:

descender - black crowes
all along the watchtower - dave matthews
silence - delerium
the sky is crying - george thorogood
dont let me be misunderstood - kill bill soundtrack
teardrop - massive attack
closer - nine inch nails
la mer - nine inch nails
glory box - portishead
soma - smashing pumpkins
st louise is listening - soul coughing
all your love i miss loving - stevie ray vaughan
little wing - stevie ray vaughan
aenima - tool
lateralus - tool
pumpkin - tricky
running to stand still - u2

ok ladies, gentlemen, and marsupials alike. i realize i have been completely missing in action over the past few months. and while i could apologize, i wont. between now being married, working a new job, and doing enough part time work to suck up most of my free time, by the time i do get a moment to myself, it typically doesnt involve sitting at a pc.

i just figured i would share a rather amusing thing that happened to me last weekend. since the NHL is in a lockout this season, the fleet center (which is owned by the boston bruins) is losing money. their attempt to make up some of this money has manifested itself in the ability to rent icetime by the hour.

so a guy i skate with on friday nights was able to get an 8pm ice time for last saturday. despite the blizzard, the warnings to stay off the roads, the parking ban in effect in the city, a group of guys managed to make it to the fleet center to use the reserved icetime. so, i can honestly say that i have now played a hockey game in the fleet center. too bad it was mostly a pickup game and not for anything actually important.

in other enlightening news, while there, i met paul stewart, legendary NHL referee while there. he was officiating a game before us between the boston fire department and police department. he hung around to chat with all of us while we were warming up. he even offered to drop the first faceoff puck for us. supposedly there is a digital picture someplace of this and im hoping to get a copy sometime soon. i should be in the photo too since i was playing wing behind him when the picture was taken. good stuff indeed.

ok, off to sleep. night lovelies.

I stole this commentary from ESPN.com after someone pointed me to it. If you're a fan of baseball, or the Red Sox, or just hate all things about the NY Yankees, it's a good read. :)

ok, i know i promised a description of our more than eventful 'honeymoon', but i havent quite had enough time yet to actually sit down and do it. it will happen, i promise, i just dont know when. between starting a new job, learning everything I can about the product I'm supposed to be supporting, getting things done in 'post wedding' mode, and doing the occasional spat as a consultant, I just havent been able to squeeze it in.

in other news, i was listening to my xm radio on my way into work yesterday. i heard 'sweet child o mine' by guns n roses on a classic rock station. [shudder] does that mean im officially old now?

every now and then i look back at things i am experiencing and wonder how i got there. not a literal, 'how did i get here?' question, but more a, 'what lead to me being in this position at this moment?' i am in the midst of huge changes in life. and to present some of them, i hereby present to you this list. it shall be commemorated after this date as the "holy crap, dan's got some shit happenin' list" or, for the lazy out there, HCDGSSHL.

  • moved into a new apartment on july 1
  • fiance moved into said apartment on july 10
  • unpacked myself
  • helped unpack fiance
  • unpacked gifts from three wedding showers
  • planning wedding. (two weeks from today...)
  • four major projects at work, now mostly completed
  • found a new job
  • gave my notice at present job
  • am currently actively in the process of turning 28

so while some of those items above i only helped a little on, the majority i had a big influence on. so to commemorate my 28th, i decided to take a snapshot. a literal slice of time to remember things by.
